Arkadi Monastery

Margarites
Margarites is a picturesque, historic village located in the Rethymno region of Crete, Greece. Gerontospilios
The Melidoni Cave is located about 1 800 metres northwest of the village. It has an extremely interesting history and amazing archaeological findings some of which are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Rethymno.The Melidoni cave is also called “Gerondospilios”. It was used for religious ceremonies. During the Minoan Civilization, it was a place of worship for Talos the bronze giant guardian of Crete who protected the island of Crete from enemies. It is of archaeological and historical interest.
Preveli Beach
Preveli Beach, also known as “Lake Preveli” or “Palm Beach,” is located on the island of Crete in Greece. It is situated at the confluence of the Great River (Megalos Potamos) and the Libyan Sea. The beach is famous for its lush palm grove, crystal-clear waters, and stunning natural beauty. Visitors often flock to this picturesque location to enjoy a variety of activities and experiences.
Fortezza
The Fortezza is the citadel of the city of Rethymno in Crete. It was built by the Venetians in the 16th century, and was captured by the Ottomans in 1646. By the early 20th century, many houses were built within the citadel. These were demolished after World War II, leaving only a few historic buildings within the Fortezza.
Archaeological Museum of Eleutherna
The Museum of ancient Eleutherna – Homer in Crete, the first archaeological site museum in Crete, although smaller in size, is similar to those of Olympia, Delphi, and Vergina. The museum was created to house the results of the excavations carried out for thirty years in the ancient city of Eleutherna.
